Von der Leyen: We demand the immediate release of all detained protesters
Brussels, 10 January (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the violence against protests in Tehran and called for the immediate release of all detained protesters.
Von der Leyen expressed support for the Iranian people’s demands for freedom.
She said: “The streets of Tehran and cities around the world are echoing with the footsteps of Iranian women and men demanding freedom – freedom of speech, assembly, movement, and above all, the freedom to live freely.”
She strongly condemned the violent suppression of the protests, stressed that those responsible would be on the wrong side of history, and called for the immediate release of all detainees and the restoration of internet access.
