Araghchi: The party that betrayed diplomacy is the American side
Istanbul, June 22 (Hibya) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi assessed recent events in a press conference in Istanbul. Araghchi said, “While we were pursuing a diplomatic outcome, the party that betrayed diplomacy was the American side.”
Here are key excerpts from Araghchi’s remarks:
“We were suddenly faced with an attack. American forces struck our nuclear facilities. The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns this aggressive military operation by the U.S. against our nuclear sites.”
“This is extremely painful and unprecedented. The UN Charter, international law and basic principles have been violated. The illegal and lawless administration in Washington alone is responsible for these dangerous consequences. The American leadership will also bear responsibility for the results of this aggressive stance.”
“This attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of a UN member state took place in conjunction with a genocidal regime. Once again, it revealed the hostility of the American side toward the peaceful people of Iran. They will never relinquish their sovereignty.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to defend its territory, sovereignty, security and people. We will continue to defend it with all means.”
“Not only against American military aggression, but also against the illegal attacks of the Israeli regime.”
“The President of the Russian Federation condemned America’s involvement in this war. But this also not only betrayed our commitment to diplomacy—it also placed its own electorate in a bad position.”
“The world must not forget: while we were striving for a diplomatic outcome, it was the American side that betrayed diplomacy. By supporting the Zionist regime, they are supporting this illegal war. And as if that wasn't enough, the U.S. has now launched an even more dangerous military operation against the Iranian people.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has the right to self‑defense under the UN Charter. Iran will take all necessary measures to protect its security, interests, and people.”
“This afternoon I am going to Moscow. Tomorrow morning I will meet with President Putin. The Russian Federation is a friend of Iran, and there is a strategic partnership between the two countries. We always consult each other and coordinate our positions.”
“Turkey has strongly condemned Israel’s attacks.”
“We now have a range of options ahead of us. And that is all I will say.”
