Von der Leyen stressed that Iran must never acquire a nuclear bomb.

She emphasized that stability should be the priority in a time of peak tension in the Middle East, stating:

“Respect for international law is critical. Now is the time for Iran to pursue a credible diplomatic solution. The only way to end this crisis is at the negotiation table.”

European Council President Antonio Costa also commented on the recent developments:

“The news coming from the Middle East deeply concerns us. I call on all parties to show restraint and to respect international law and nuclear safety. Diplomacy remains the only path to peace and security in the region. Too many civilians will once again fall victim to escalation. The EU will continue engaging with the parties and our partners to find a peaceful solution at the negotiation table.”
