UK: We did not participate in US strikes on Iran
London, June 22 (Hibya) – UK Economy Minister Jonathan Reynolds said that the British government was aware of US plans to carry out airstrikes on Iran but did not take part in them.
Speaking to broadcaster Sky News on Sunday morning, the minister said that the UK did not receive a request from the US to use the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean.
Jonathan Reynolds said, “We support the prevention of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. Like other European countries, we proposed a diplomatic course of action, which the Iranians rejected.”
“I know people will wake up this morning feeling concerned. They’ll want to know what this means, and I want to reassure them that, although the UK government was not involved in these strikes, we have made comprehensive preparations for all contingencies — including protecting British citizens in the region, their evacuation, and, if necessary, the protection of British infrastructure, bases, and personnel.”
