Macron calls on Iran to release detained French citizens
Paris, June 21 (Hibya) – French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the call, French President Emmanuel Macron urged the release of French citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who are detained in Iran.
Macron stated that the French nationals are being held "in inhumane conditions" and expressed his expectation for their immediate return to France.
Addressing Iran’s nuclear program, Macron emphasized that France’s position is clear: “Iran must never possess nuclear weapons. Iran must provide clear and comprehensive guarantees that its nuclear program is peaceful.”
Macron said he believes tensions in the region can be resolved before escalating further and announced that France, together with its European partners, will accelerate negotiations with Iran.
