Smoke rises near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility after U.S. strikes
Stockholm, June 22 (Hibya) – In a video published by Iranian state media and geolocated by CNN, smoke is seen rising from the direction of the Fordow nuclear facility following U.S. strikes on three nuclear sites on Sunday, including Fordow.
The video, shared by Iran’s official news agency IRNA and filmed from a moving vehicle, shows a large cloud of dark smoke on the horizon. A voice says, “The only visible smoke in the sky over Fordow is coming from the Fordow nuclear facility.”
CNN cannot independently verify the source of the smoke. According to CNN’s geolocation, the video was filmed on the Tehran-Qom highway, about 13 kilometers west of the Fordow facility.
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan were “completely destroyed” by the attacks. However, Iranian officials downplayed the damage, with a lawmaker stating Fordow was not seriously damaged and state media reporting only the facility’s entry and exit tunnels were hit, not the main structure.
The Fordow site is buried deep within several mountains near the holy city of Qom.
